2018-19 CitySquare AmeriCorps Member Application

CitySquare AmeriCorps places members in four focus areas: Education, Food Security, Social Services, and Disaster Recovery.

Applicants are encouraged to apply early to be considered for a position. Applicants are considered on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Qualified applicants will be contacted by the CitySquare AmeriCorps office via phone or email and invited to an interview session.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO SERVE:

  • High School Graduate (17 or older)
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (deferred action does not suffice)
  • Reliable transportation
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • A commitment to make a difference

how do you want to serve?

Education Positions

After-school Dallas positions: After-school members serve 675 hours of service (22 hrs/wk) from September 4, 2018 – May 24, 2019. Program schedules vary, but all positions require availability during after school hours, Monday through Friday from 1 p.m.– 7 p.m. for the entire school year. Members receive a living allowance of $5,400 and a $2,255 education award.

Houston Full Time positions: CitySquare AmeriCorps places members with United Way of Greater Houston in Houston, Texas to serve 1,700 hours of service (42 hrs/wk) from September 4, 2018 – August 2, 2019.  Members earn a $20,400 living allowance and a $5,920 education award.

Summer positions: Members serve in education positions in Dallas and Houston during the summer months.  Summer members serve 300 hours (35-40 hrs/wk) and earn a living allowance of $2,000 and an education award of $1,252.91.  Summer positions begin May 28, 2019.

Food Security Positions

Year-round: CitySquare AmeriCorps places members in food pantries at CitySquare and other partnering nonprofit organizations working to improve food security in the greater Dallas area. Food security members serve 450 hours of service (32-35 hrs/wk) during one of these 3 terms:

September 4 – December 21, 2018

January 7 – April 26, 2019

May 13 – August 16, 2019

Members earn a $3,000 living allowance and a $1,566.14 education award.

CitySquare Food summer meal program: CitySquare Food program provides free meals to children during the summer months. Members serve between 300-450 hours of service (30-45 hrs/wk, depending on position) from May 28 – August 9, 2019. Members earn a living allowance ranging from $2,000 to $3,800 and an education award ranging from $1,252.91 to $1,566.14, depending on position.

Social Services Positions

Social services members provide assistance to vulnerable individuals and families through case management, housing support, homeless outreach, workforce training, etc. Preference for these positions is given to applicants pursuing a degree in social work or a related field. Members serve 450 hours of service  (32-35 hrs/wk) during one of these 3 terms:

September 4 – December 21, 2018

January 7 – April 26, 2019

May 13 – August 16, 2019

Members earn a $3,000 living allowance and a $1,566.14 education award.

Disaster Recovery Positions

Disaster recovery members serve in long-term natural disaster recovery activities, such as home repairs and rebuilding. Members serve 900 hours from January 28 – August 9, 2019, earn a $8,925 living allowance and a $2,960 education award. These positions are currently located in Houston, TX and Rockport, TX.

What’s the Education Award?

The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a benefit that AmeriCorps members receive upon successful completion of their term of service.
