Chief Advancement Officer
Sarah Cantu joined the CitySquare team in July 2020, with more than 15 years of experience in overseeing comprehensive philanthropic campaigns and fundraising teams within health care and nonprofit organizations. As Chief Advancement Officer, she is responsible for leading the philanthropic program to support our mission and vision.
Sarah began her development career at the American Heart Association. Her experience led to a senior-level role at San Diego’s most extensive healthcare delivery system, Sharp HealthCare. There, she directed giving efforts and helped build the philanthropic infrastructure at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. While working at Sharp HealthCare Foundation, Sarah oversaw a $7 million campaign to build the Douglas and Nancy Barnhart Cancer Center and expand the emergency department. She also led a $50 million capital campaign to provide advanced health care for San Diego’s South Bay community by building a next-generation hospital tower.
Sarah holds her B.A. in Public Affairs and Corporate Communications, focusing on nonprofit management from Southern Methodist University and is currently obtaining her M.B.A from the University of Colorado. She has served as President of Las Primeras, on the boards of Grace Lutheran Church and Howard Gardner Community School and as the grants committee chair for Rotary Club of Chula Vista.
