Carl ran away from home when he was 15 years old. After spending the 22 years on the streets, he found CitySquare, where case workers helped him find an temporary apartment. A year later, Carl moved into permanent supportive housing at The Cottages at Hickory Crossing, where he has been for the last two years.
Carl earns a stipend for lunch and transportation by working at the CitySquare Thrift Store. “They really care about you,” Carl says of the case managers at CitySquare. “If you’re willing to help yourself, they’ll give you a helping hand.”
Carl’s neighbors, case workers, and supervisors all appreciate his kind spirit and readiness to work. At the Thrift Store, he is known to jump in and complete the tasks no one else wants to do. It is work he is happy to do because he feels “God blessed me to get to the Cottages. I’m doing alright now.”
