Food on the Move Kicks Off at Urbandale Park

Date: June 13, 2017

CitySquare’s Food on the Move kicked off its summer meals program in Urbandale Park in East Dallas today. This summer, Food on the Move will provide meals to kids ages 1-18 at 84 meal sites. The nutritious meals are free, and the AmeriCorps members make the meal time fun, a mini day camp, with games and outdoor fun, for about an hour.

CitySquare partners Neighbor Up, Big Thought and Dallas City of Learning were a part of the kickoff. The Urbandale/Parkdale area is on the cusp of potential growth in Dallas. CitySquare and its partners are working to steward positive change and growth in the area by ensuring all students have access to high-quality summer learning programs that stem summer learning loss. The organization’s mobile outreach will be on hand at FOM sites this summer to engage students in learning and keep their minds active over the long break.

Many Dallas families face hunger and financial strain during the summer months because food costs for the family go up without the free meals offered at public school. CitySquare’s Food on the Move summer meal program offsets the cost of food for these families during the summer. All children, 1-18, are welcome to find a food site and come daily for free food and fun. A map of all the FOM sites can be found here.
