Computers for WorkPaths

Date: April 11, 2017

In January, a generous donor gave CitySquare the funds to purchase 15 new laptop computers for the WorkPaths program. Prior to the donation, the WorkPaths classes used the computers at Opportunity Center partners Per Scholas, after 2:30 pm when their classes had finished for the day, or Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas, which are no longer available due to staff growth.

Both of the workforce development programs, Food Service and Hospitality and Build4Success, need access to computers on a regular basis. This donation ensures that each student has a consistently working computer to complete their certification testing, resumes, job searches and job applications. With 17 students in B4S and 20 in Hospitality, these 15 computers are a great start to neighbors in the programs having the access to the internet that they need.

Shanay Wise, Manager of Food Service and Hospitality, knows how important this access to computers is both for her class certification testing (ServSafe food handler certificate and TABC certification) but also for the neighbors to grow their computer skills before entering the workforce. “No matter what obstacles the students face, they rise to the occasion and persevere. These computers have allowed the students to gain the basics of technology they need to go out into the field and be successful.”
